How should I prepare for IB physics?

A combination of continuous hard work and a planned strategy towards the subject can do wonders to boost your score. Here are a few key points that one may consider while preparing for IB Physics :

1. HARD WORK ALWAYS PAYS:

Remember that with continuous practice; even the tough topics can be prepared easily. It is very important to maintain a daily schedule of revisiting topics covered in IB Physics coaching class.

This way, not only would you know where your strength lies, but would also be able to identify key areas where you may require additional help from your guide or teacher.

2.  KNOW WHAT IS COVERED IN YOUR SYLLABUS:

It is absolutely essential for you to know what will cover your year one topic. You should be aware of all concepts and possible extensions of topics that may be asked in the examination.

It is through this knowledge that you may avoid any last-minute surprises on the examination day.

3. DO WELL AT YOUR IA (INTERNAL ASSESSMENT) QUESTION:

A good IA score reflects on a chance to earn a good maximum score. If your IA score is good, even if you do not impress yourself with a good score in the final, you can be hopeful of a good overall score.

You may seek the advice of your teacher or guide to know what is possibly expected of you in the Internal Assessment.

4. WORK AT THE PAST YEAR’S PAPERS:

It helps you if you do the past year’s examination papers in simulated conditions in two distinct ways:( a) It helps you to know key areas for improvement, thereby influencing your preparation and, (b) It helps you to know where you stand and how much more hard work is expected of you.

5. BE IN PERFECT TANDEM WITH YOUR TEACHER:

In order to maximize your score, it is important for you to follow the topic that is being covered in the classroom session. Make sure you understand each and every point that is being covered before moving on to the next topic.

You may also seek your teacher’s advice on the Internal Assessment preparation, as discussed above in point no.3.Your teacher may also guide you on how to maximize your overall score and how to prepare for different topics.

6. UNDERSTAND HOW MARKS ARE AWARDED:

It has been often observed that the kind of explanations that one is expected to provide an answer, is not provided and that leads to loss of marks. It is, therefore, necessary to know how an answer will fetch good marks.

You should know your theories and definitions well and explain them in a manner that fetches good marks. If you have been practicing with past papers as discussed above in point 4, you will know the scheme of marks.

7. BRUSH UP YOUR MATH:

Along with the regular practice of your key concepts, it is essential for one to work on equation solving, trigonometry, calculus, and other math topics that may come in handy in the Physics examination. Never leave out the mathematics part and keep a regular schedule of practicing key math concepts.

With the above-mentioned key points, one may prepare well for their IB Physics and may look forward to a good score, provided he/she puts in regular hard work and understands his topics well. A planned approach goes a long way in getting a good score.
